Hokitika to Murchison Saturday February 26th. 201kms

We drove into Hokitika in the morning and parked by the beach. Another beautiful beach with lots of driftwood that people have made use of and made into "sculptures" The one that took our eye was of the name Hokitika made from driftwood which is pictured on this sitehttp://www.hokitika.org/
We drove up the coast to Greymouth where we left the coast and drove north east towards Murchison. The last part of today's drive was through the Buller Gorge where, in one place, we could see the remains of the huge landslip that happened when there was a major earthquake in the area in 1968. This used to be gold mining country and communications in the area must have been very difficult before the road was built. New Zealand's longest swing-bridge,110 metres, spans the Buller river. We did park up to have a very quick look at it but there were so many sand flies about we soon made a hasty retreat. The stunning scenery of South island never seems to stop, every day is a never ending show of superb views.
We stayed at the Kiwi holiday park in Murchison, overnight. OK site but not as good as the Kiwi park near Invercargill. Perhaps I was a little biased as I had bought a voucher for internet usage which didn't work and the "lady in charge" refused to give me a refund!
