Tuesday 1st March Collinwood to Marabou
We would have liked to stay another day at Collinwood but it was raining hard so we packed up and left. We had heard that there was a camp site near Farewell Spit, which is the furthest point north of South Island, so we decided to go and have a look along there. It wasn't too far but the camp site didn't look too tempting and it was still raining so we decided to turn around and go back towards the Abel Tasman. Despite the rain the view were still pretty spectacular and I was able to sit back and enjoy them as Nigel was driving. We drove into the Abel Tasman National Park and parked up at the Marahau camp site. The rain had stopped and we went to the very nice restaurant with sea view for a late lunch and then had a walk along the beach before the rain started again. We were lucky to have had that brief interlude as once the rain started again it just got heavier and heavier. I am sure that it is a beautiful area and we would have been able to take a water taxi to see other areas of the park if the weather had been better. As it was still raining next day we were soon up and away again.
