Wednesday 2nd March. Marahau to Nelson.

After a wet night and still more rain in the morning we left Marahau and drove to Motueka. I wanted to visit the pottery that we had seen advertised on our previous visit in search of a present for Julie. We found the studio which was the annex to the potters house and dashed, through the pouring rain, into the pottery. Jenny Miller makes lively stoneware  mice,  cats,  dogs,  hens,  roosters  and  dragons and we were very taken with all her work. Julie is a cat person so we were on the lookout for a cat and we were spoilt for choice but ended up buying one very similar to this one pictured below. I have to confess that I chipped the ear off one of the cats that I was looking at. I felt so bad about it but she didn't charge me any extra and wrapped the cat up beautifully so that we could take him back on the plane to Auckland. We left Motueka still in the rain and drove to Nelson. where we found a camp site quite close to the town, the Nelson City holiday park. After lunch we drove into town and had a walk around the town centre and visited the Nelson City museum before relaxing with a beer and watching the world go by. Then back to the camp site to prepare the evening meal in the camp kitchen. Although the site was so close to the town it was relatively quiet and very popular.
